Finding Our Places (Part 2)

The journey of the human soul is a dual migration, a restless search for a home that is both geographical and spiritual. We often believe that finding our place is a matter of changing our scenery, yet as we move across the earth, the landscapes within our hearts shift just as dramatically.

Think of the rich young ruler who approached Jesus. When he was told to sell all he owned, the request wasn't about the currency in his pockets, but the location of his heart. To find his true place, he needed to move internally, shifting his weight from the solid ground of his possessions toward a horizon he couldn't yet see.

This transition—this "finding of place"—demands the terrifying art of letting go. It is much like the work of a trapeze artist. To catch the next bar, the flyer must first build momentum, swinging high into the air. They cannot simply step off a motionless bar without falling; they must trust the arc of the swing. Only in full, vibrant motion can they release their grip on the old support to reach for the new. In the same way, we must surrender our self-dependence and "put on the new nature," trusting God’s lead even when the fog of uncertainty settles over the path.

The goal of this journey is the discovery of the "proper place," a rare and beautiful convergence of two worlds:

The Inward Place is the quiet center of who you are—your identity, your deepest desires, and your fundamental yearning to serve a higher purpose.

The Outward Place is the manifestation of your life in the world—the unique toolkit of skills and spiritual gifts you have gathered along the way.

Where these two worlds collide, you find your place of service. It is that sacred intersection where the work you are most compelled to do meets the work the world most desperately needs to have done.
